And reservations are made at least a week before the most romantic day of the year — February 8th is the perfect day to make those reservations in time for Valentine's Day.

Simple Steps to Keeping the Romance

Want to keep the magic in the novel? Be polite, be careful and don't eat with your mouth open!

Minding your manners is just as important as picking the right restaurant when it comes to hookup success, according to a recent survey by OpenTable Canada designed to uncover the top no-go daters. The survey found that rudeness to waiters, frequent texting at the table, excessive drinking, ex-boyfriend talk, and — hiss! - Chewing with your mouth open is the biggest hindrance at the dinner table this romantic season.

"Our research found that it's just as important to look your best on a date as it is for the restaurant staff to take care of you," said Matt Davis, country director of OpenTable Canada, in a recent press release. "We want to inspire Canadians to combine their charm with their passion for romance and food this Valentine's Day."

The research also revealed the following:

Swear by love:72% of partygoers are excited to splurge at local restaurants and plan to spend more than $41 per person.

The statement:Share or not? Research shows that two-thirds of Canadians are happy to split their bills for a date on Valentine's Day.

the great divide: Generations still divide when it comes to splitting the bill. On Valentine's Day 2023, nearly 80% of Gen Zers and Millennials believe it's OK to split the dinner bill evenly, compared to 50% of Baby Boomers, suggesting a shift in attitudes towards dating and finance.
