With the Microsoft Power Platform admin center, you can create environments of different types. Companies and customers can try out new features and solutions through test environments. There are two types of test environments: Evaluation (Standard) and Evaluation (Subscription-based).
Use
The term "evaluation", as used in all other topics and in the user interface, refers to the standard test environment type rather than the subscription-based type.
Not all companies and managers approach studies in the same way. This is especially true when it comes to deciding whether to allow users to try out new features. Some companies allow users to try out features for themselves. Others want administrators to have complete control over what is being tested and who is licensed to use the environment. Both types of test environments provide this level of control.
- attempt (default): This is the kind of staging environment that organizations can use to let users and department heads try out new features and quickly build applications and processes with little or no code. Organization (tenant) admins can allow all users to create reviews or just tenant admins. If allowed for users, any user in this organization who has itan appropriate licenseYou can create a 30-day trial environment. After 30 days, the environment will be disabled and deleted.
- Trial (subscription based): This is the kind of test environment that organizations can use to develop larger, multi-user, multi-departmental solutions and conduct proofs of concept. Tenant admins can add a trial (subscription-based) environment to their tenants, or new customers can sign up for a new tenant and become a global admin. For new customers, an admin-managed subscription is created with a set number of licenses (typically 25). Administrators control which other users receive licenses. An admin-managed subscription has an end date that can be renewed.
No type of environment consumes paid capacity. You can turn any type of staging environment into a production environment by switching it to use paid capacity, which prevents it from being retired and deleted. Once it becomes a production environment, it follows the paid license lifecycle.
Several ways to start a test
The type of staging environment you create depends on where you start and your tenant-level permissions.

Check the expiration date of a trial environment (by subscription).
A trial (subscription-based) environment is valid as long as the subscription is active. Follow the steps below to check the expiration date.
get connectedMicrosoft 365 admin centerwith global administrator credentials.
Chooseinvoice>your productsand then select theSubscriptionsAba.
Select your Dynamics 365 subscription and check the date on theinvoiceSection.
Extend a test environment (default environment).
Note the following:
- In the last 7 days before the default test environment expires, the test environment administrator can do a self-service extension of the expiration environment. This will add another 30 days from the original expiration date.
- Only one self-service extension is allowed per default test environment. To continue to preserve the environment, you mustswitched to production.
To extend a pattern:
get connectedPower platform admin centerwith administrator credentials.
Go toenvironmentsand then select a running environment with theextend trial periodPossibility. Theextend trial periodThe option will appear when there are 7 days or less left before the environment expires.
Chooseextend trial period
Read the notification and selectextend trial period.
Your trial will be extended by 30 days from the original expiration date.
Extend a test environment (subscription-based)
Expiration of subscription-based test environments (also known as admin test environments) is tied to subscription expiration. Therefore, subscription-based test environments cannot be independently extended. There are limited options for renewing admin trial subscriptions, which will affect the renewal expiration of all associated trial environments.
To extend a subscription-based trial (administration):
Admins can request a single extension in the Microsoft 365 admin center. ViewTry or buy a Microsoft 365 for business subscription.
Only one Self-Service Extension is allowed per Offer Based Test Environment. To continue to preserve the environment, you mustswitched to production.
Convert both types of test environments to a production environment
Use
Dynamics 365 Marketing test environments cannot be converted to production environments.

Converting to a production environment can take several hours.
common questions
What type of account can create a free trial environment?
For the best testing experience, we recommend using your work or school email address managed byMicrosoft Azure Active Directory. If you create a standard test environment fromhttps://trials.dynamics.com/, some products may support consumer email accounts that are not managed by Microsoft Azure Active Directory.
Use
If you use a consumer email account to create a test environment, there will be limitations on your test environment, for example, for example:
- You cannot access them.Power platform admin centerto manage the test environment, extend the test, or manage users of the environment.
- You cannot access them.Microsoft 365 admin centermanage tenant users.
Who can convert a test environment to a production environment?
The organization (tenant) administrator can determine who can create test environments and convert them to production environments. If you are eligible and have 1 GB of production database capacity available, you can convert a test environment to a production environment. It may be necessary to release or purchase additional capacity if the test environment database exceeds the available production capacity. For information on how to determine the test environment database size, seeDataverse storage capacity.
I see an environment type (by subscription) option for testing. Why can't I create this type of test?
Only tenant admins can create a staging (subscription-based) environment. Also, make sure you have an active Dynamics 365 trial subscription.
Can I copy a test environment?
Yes. Tenant admins can copy test environments (by subscription) to a target environment of the same type.
What management operations are supported for test environments?
A 30-day trial can only be created and deleted; It cannot be reset, backed up, restored or copied.
Why can't I backup my test environment?
Management operations (copy, backup, restore and reset) are not supported for trial versions, except delete.
How can I keep my data and resources if I don't have the option to convert the test environment (standard environment) to a production environment?
You can export your assets and data to another environment if you want to keep them longer than the trial period. We recommend that you use a production environment or a custom environment (with thePower Apps developer plan) and export your resources to this environment.
Here are some guidelines for exporting resources.
