Because you will love this trip

  • Go on a white water rafting adventure on the Trisuli River, zipping downstream past giant boulders and amidst lush green hills.

  • Stretch your legs on an incredible three-day low-altitude trek through villages and rhododendron forests, enjoying incredible views of the Annapurna mountain range.

  • Relax in the super zen of Pokhara where you can take a boat on the calm waters of Phewa Lake and sail below the giant mountains.

  • Start and end your journey in the bustling metropolis of Kathmandu, explore Durbar Square, wander the chaotic streets or simply relax with a relaxing massage to ease the after-effects of a 3-day trek.

  • Be welcomed into the home of a local family and gain an insight into rural culture as you enjoy the view from your traditional tea house.

Is this trip right for you?

  • There are some long days of travel on roads that seem to be permanently under construction. What looks like a short distance on a map can take an inexplicably long time to complete. A lot of patience (and maybe some good podcasts at the ready) will make you enjoy the ride.

  • This trip does not go to high altitude so if you have been hesitant to explore Nepal for that reason you should have no problem acclimatizing on this tour.

  • As rafting activity is included, please speak to your leader in advance if you are not a confident swimmer. There is also the option to opt out of this activity and spend time at camp instead.

  • While at the Trisuli River we also have a night of camping. This is in a permanent camp where tents, mats and blankets are provided and sanitation is basic.

  • Outside of the main cities, Nepal can be a quiet place, with few 'touristy' attractions and options for organized activities. There is plenty of time for your own exploration or relaxation. Don't expect every day to be action-packed, but be prepared to seek out your own simpler cultural experiences.

  • As we live in some places where there are few options for eating out, some meals may be set menus rather than being able to choose from a variety of options.

Itinerary

Day 1: Kathmandu

Hello Kathmandu! The adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 6:00 pm. M. where you will meet your guide and your new travel companions. Look for a note in the hotel lobby or ask at the hotel reception where it will be held. If you arrive early, there is plenty to do in this vibrant city. The most important Buddhist shrine in Kathmandu, the Swayambhunath Stupa and the nearby 'City of Believers' Bhaktapur are worth a visit. For a bit more structure, there are a number of Urban Adventures day trips that can help you delve into Kathmandu's ancient architecture and rich cultural heritage. After the welcome meeting, maybe have dinner together or go to one of the nearby bars. Your leader will have plenty of recommendations for a cocktail or two.

Arrive in Pokhara in the afternoon and take a ride with your leader who will point out some of the best sights and sounds. Day 4: Ghandruk (1950m/6397ft)

Today we drive from Pokhara to Shyauli Bazaar which takes about 1.5 hours. I hope you broke in your boots before the trip, because this is where the hiking begins. It's all mostly uphill today, that's some mixed terrain there! There is a dirt road leading to Birethanti and Shyauli villages. Then, reach a stone staircase to Kimche, where you will stop for lunch. Continue following the stone slabs that lead you through the wheat fields to Ghandruk. Tonight you will stay at your first Nepalese tea house.

Look east. This is Landruk, the next town on the route. Look down. This is the Modi Kola River 600 meters below. Look in the corner. This is Tolkha, your base for the night. What, you can't look around corners? Okay, you'll just have to walk there. Start with mountain view for breakfast and then start the journey to Tolkha. It takes about 2 hours mostly descending and then it's time for a climb of about 3 hours to our next stop at the tea house.

Day 6: Hemjakot (1530 m / 5019 ft)

Rhododendron is a spelled word, but very beautiful. You will see many of these bright pink and purple plants today. You know what you won't see much of? Other people. We chose a fairly remote trail from Dhampus to Hemjakot and tonight you can stay with a local family. The houses in Hemjakot reflect the traditional style of this part of the Himalayas: built from natural stones of the region showing an indigenous style of architecture that has been largely eclipsed in the big cities of Nepal. Experience the rural lifestyle in the mountains, gaining knowledge of the local culture. The first 2 hours of hiking is uphill, then it's mostly downhill from there. Pack your best smile and get an even bigger one in return.
